Welcome to the Healthy Palmetto website. We encourage you to explore the site and use the reliable information that you find here. We initiated this program because South Carolinians tend to have poorer health outcomes than most others in the nation. According to the 2006 South Carolina Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, 65.4 percent of South Carolina adults are overweight and more than half do not participate in the recommended amount of moderate or vigorous physical activity. These risk factors are related to major causes of diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease.
